Invoking the soul of fado, the ghost of Ennio Morricone and the post-modern irony of Nick Cave, Tó Trips and Pedro Gonçalves are Dead Combo, a guitar duo from Portugal. A guitar duo that plays really cool, atmospheric, cinematic, deep, beautiful instrumental music. They have a great ‘bad-ass’, noir image that should be intriguing. They look like (and sound like) they belong in a Tarantino movie. They’ve played in Portugal with Marc Ribot and they lay down a very compelling groove.
Dead Combo emerged in 2003 from the creative hub of the Barrio Alto, the epicenter of experimental music, visual art and films in Lisbon when Tó and Pedro were asked by a local radio station to record a tribute to the genius of the Portuguese guitar, Carlos Paredes.
5 albums followed from this invitation along with perennial awards and top seller status in Iberia. Dead Combo recently received attention across the Atlantic after featuring on the Lisbon episode of "No Reservations" by Anthony Bourdain. Three of the band's albums duly reached the top 10 of the North-American iTunes charts and have remained there. Their album, Lisboa Mulata, features guest appearances by Marc Ribot, Camané and Sérgio Godinho and will be released in North America in 2013.
