Tim “Too Slim” Langford is a foundational figure in Washington’s blues scene. He was instrumental in organizing the Winthrop Rhythm and Blues Festival, now the largest and oldest in the state, and for more than 25 years was a fixture at clubs, events and outdoor concerts throughout the Pacific Northwest with his band Too Slim and the Taildraggers. 

Through sheer hard work and determination, and with the help of his wife and manager Nancy, Tim built an international career. Four of his albums have appeared on the Billboard Blues Chart, his album “Shiver” was nominated for a Blues Music Award, the highest award offered in the genre, and he has toured all over the world. 

Along the way, Tim quietly supported many young musicians and did many acts of kindness that only those closest to him knew about. 

So when Tim was diagnosed with cancer late in 2014, the entire Pacific Northwest rallied to support him. Shows were organized in Tacoma, Portland and Spokane to raise money for his medical expenses not covered by insurance, and for his living expenses while he was off the road. 

The support was significant, but Tim is still facing about $10,000 in uncovered expenses, so his Seattle supporters are stepping up! 

Pacific Northwest top blues musicians, including Duffy Bishop, star of Seattle’ Teatro ZinZanni, her guitarist and husband Chris Carlson, and Lloyd Jones, will perform at Seattle’s Triple Door in a huge benefit concert and silent auction to raise money to support one of their own, Tim “Too Slim” Langford, in his struggle with cancer. 

Sunday, May 31, 7-10 p.m., at the Triple Door, former band members of Tim’s will join Lloyd Jones, Duffy Bishop, Chris Carlson and others to help Tim and his family get by while Tim works on getting well.
