Since releasing his sophomore album Solidarity Breaks in early 2011, Norwegian retro-soul singer/multi-instrumentalist Bernhoft has thrilled crowds around the world with his stripped-down yet amped-up one-man-band act. Largely on the strength of his looping-enhanced and wonder-inspiring live show, Bernhoft racked up 250,000 sales of Solidarity Breaks and earned more than three million views for “C’Mon Talk” (a beatbox-infused, acoustic-guitar-laced single that Bernhoft performed during his September 2011 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show). With his irresistibly of-the-moment approach to classic R&B and soul, Bernhoft also nabbed the Best Artist and Best Male Artist of the Year awards at the 2012 Spellemannprisen, which are the equivalent to the GRAMMYs in Norway. Now, the former frontman of acclaimed alt-rock band Span is returning to the U.S. with an unforgettable live performance in which his ingenuity in looping magically reproduces the sound, feel, and energy of a complete band.

Hype! (1996) is a documentary directed by Doug Pray about the popularity of grunge rock in the early to mid-1990s United States. It incorporates interviews and rare concert footage to trace the steps of grunge, from its subversive inception in neighborhood basements, to its explosion as a pop culture phenomenon. Hype! shows grunge from the point of view of people within the grunge scene, and attempts to dispel some of the myths of the genre promulgated by media hype, hence the title. The movie generally portrays the latter faction in a satirical way, though acknowledges that media hype helped to propel some of these obscure bands to fame, albeit briefly.
The film first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 1996. It later opened to general audiences on November 8 of the same year.
Hype! includes interviews and performances from bands (primarily oriented with the Sub Pop Records axis) such as TAD, Mudhoney, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Coffin Break, The Gits, Love Battery, Flop, The Melvins, Mono Men, Supersuckers, Zipgun, Seaweed, Pearl Jam, 7 Year Bitch, Hovercraft, Gas Huffer and Fastbacks.

Grease is a 1978 American musical film directed by Randal Kleiser and produced by Paramount Pictures. It is based on Warren Casey's and Jim Jacobs's 1971 musical of the same name about two lovers in a 1950s high school. The film stars John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John, Stockard Channing, and Jeff Conaway. It was successful both critically and at the box office; its soundtrack album ended 1978 as the second-best selling album of the year in the United States, behind the soundtrack of Saturday Night Fever, another film starring Travolta.

Blending the sounds of traditional folk music with elements of dark, neverland whimsy, Hannalee creates a unique music strange and familiar at once. Fidelia Rowe, Michael Harley & Anna-Lisa Notter sing in warm three-part harmony that wraps the ear like its favorite childhood blanket and sends it off to bed to dream enchanted dreams.
Welcome to Maraqopa, population 2. Damien Jurado's newest collaboration with producer Richard Swift drops us into a brutal and benevolent landscape. The bold strokes and new turns the pair made with 2010's Saint Bartlett are taken even further. He throws open the gate on his oft insular dirges and allows them do some real wilding out in the canyon. In Maraqopa, the vistas are miles-wide; the action is more dynamic; the close-ups sweaty and snarling. The strummed desert blues that begin "Nothing is the News" quickly bursts open into an Eddie Hazel-worthy supernova shred session, all of it swirling in tinny-psych and Echoplex'd howls. We've never heard anything like this from Jurado. Fifteen years into his remarkable career, and he continues to blossom. Jurado and Swift establish themselves not only as inventive, trusting collaborators, but as one another's spirit animals in American outsider songcraft —lone wolves in black sheep's clothing. Swift is the Ennio Morricone to Jurado's Sergio Leone.

High Fidelity is a 2000 American comedy-drama film directed by Stephen Frears and starring John Cusack and Danish actress Iben Hjejle. The film centers on Rob Gordon (John Cusack), a self-confessed music geek with a poor understanding of women. After getting dumped by his current girlfriend, Laura (Iben Hjejle), he decides to look up some of his old partners in an attempt to figure out where he keeps going wrong in his relationships.
He spends his days at his record store, Championship Vinyl, where he holds court over the customers that drift through. Helping Rob in his task of musical elitism are Dick (Todd Louiso) and Barry (Jack Black), the "musical moron twins," as he refers to them. Armed with an encyclopedic knowledge of all things musical, they compile "top five" lists for every conceivable occasion, openly mock the ignorance of their customers, and, every so often, sell a few records.

Not sixty seconds into Beautiful Friction and it is clear; the haunting guitar of Jamie West-Oram, expressive synth of Rupert Greenall, pounding bass of Dan K. Brown, steady beat of Adam Woods and unforgettable vocals of Cy Curnin add up to the undeniable sound that could only be The Fixx. Apart, you couldn’t refute their talent, yet it’s together that they shine. Together, The Fixx has an incredibly strong voice, strong legacy and strong future.
Beautiful Friction, the band’s tenth album studio album, finds The Fixx sharper than ever. Never at a loss for what to say, Cy Curnin and company have the same thought-provoking intensity fueling their lyrics and performances as they ever have. Fired up and as hopeful as ever, the band continues to take us on a journey which started in 1982 with the release of Shuttered Room.

"Fresh of an opening tour slot for Weird Al Yankovic, Seattle based nerd-rock band Kirby Krackle are proud to debut their fourth full-length album, "Sounds Like You" at the Triple Door before embarking on their West Coast tour in support of their new album. Having spent the past five years touring the world and rising through the ranks to emerge as one of the leaders behind the new nerd-rock / geek-music movement, Kirby Krackle returns with another album full of adamantium-laced rock-pop and continues to provide the soundtrack for geek life as it exists in 2013. Whether singing about falling in love over social media, what they imagine might exist north-of-the-wall in HBO's "Game Of Thones" series, or the excitement of going over to your grandma's house to a thumping dance beat, Kirby Krackle puts on a show to inspire you to sing along with passion to songs about the pop-culture topics your love, and remind you why being a geek is so awesome."
"Openers sister folk-duo from Portland The Doubleclicks will also perform infectious acoustic sing-alongs filled with dry wit and whimsy, while New York's H2Awesome make their first West-coast appearance bringing their own brand of east-coast nerd-rock"
*Every attendee of Kirby Krackle's "Sounds Like You" CD Release show will get their own copy of the album included in the ticket price along with a limited edition poster. Band signings will take place immediately after the show.*

Searching for Sugar Man is a Swedish-British documentary film directed by Malik Bendjelloul, which details the efforts of two Cape Town fans in the late 1990s, Stephen 'Sugar' Segerman and Craig Bartholomew Strydom, to find out whether the rumored death of American musician Sixto Rodriguez was true, and, if not, to discover what had become of him. Rodriguez's music, which never took off in the United States, had become wildly popular in South Africa, but little was known about him there.
On 10 February 2013, the film won the BAFTA Award for Best Documentary at the 66th British Academy Film Awards in London, and two weeks later it won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature at the 85th Academy Awards in Hollywood.
On May 9, 2013, Rodriguez received an honorary doctorate - a Doctor of Humane Letters degree - from his alma mater Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan during WSU's 10 AM commencement ceremony.

Led by Asher's tenacious trombone and sweet vocals this versatile group from New York City's vibrant early jazz scene bring a hot and charming celebration of one of the first Great American singer-songwriters, Hoagy Carmichael. Classics like "Startdust," "Georgia On My Mind," Up A Lazy River" performed in a diverse variety of styles from Louis Armstrong's enchanting Hot Fives to the funky and soulful music of New Orleans brass bands. Emily Asher's Garden Party is a Brooklyn based band with a strong Seattle heart including Shorewood and UW alum Asher, and Roosevelt grads drummer Jay Lepley and trumpeter Mike Davis.
"Emily Asher's Garden Party is a deliberately prosaic name deviously calculated to describe a very exciting combo... In traditional jazz, the trombone comes closest to the human voice, although up to now it's rarely been cast as a distinctly female voice... Ms. Asher plays with both grit and grace." - Will Friedwald, The Wall Street Journal

Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds is an eight-piece powerhouse that puts a modern spin on classic soul. The band is led by Arleigh Kincheloe (Sister Sparrow), whose astoundingly powerful voice and sly demeanor make for a spellbinding presence onstage. She is backed by the mighty force of The Dirty Birds, a flock of seven men who masterfully lay down thundering grooves and soaring melodies. While each of the Birds are capable of lighting up the stage with jaw-dropping displays of musicianship, it’s clear they’re focused on delivering the band’s infectious music as a single entity. Simply put, the band’s live show is explosive.

Debo Band is a 11-member group led by Ethiopian-American saxophonist Danny Mekonnen and fronted by charismatic vocalist Bruck Tesfaye. Since their inception in 2006, the band has won raves for their groundbreaking take on Ethiopian pop music (think Ethiopiques), which incorporates traditional scales and vocal styles, alongside American soul and funk rhythms, and instrumentation reminiscent of Eastern European brass bands. Debo have toured Ethiopia twice, appearing at both the Ethiopian Music Festival in Addis Ababa and Sauti Za Busara in Zanzibar, the largest music festival in East Africa. In North America, they’ve shared stages with Gogol Bordello, Amadou & Mariam, Antibalas, The Family Stone, and Ethiopian great Tilahun Gessesse. Recent and upcoming performances include the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, Bumbershoot, Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors, The Kennedy Center, Montreal Jazz Festival, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, South by Southwest, globalFEST 2012, Joe’s Pub, International Festival of Arts & Ideas, and Montana Folk Festival. Their self-titled debut for Sub Pop / Next Ambiance was produced by Thomas “Tommy T” Gobena of Gogol Bordello and features album art by critically-renowned painter Julie Mehretu. It was recorded at Machines with Magnets (Battles, Deer Tick) and mastered by Grammy-nominated engineer Joe LaPorta at The Lodge.

Canadian boogie piano player Kaeshammer is noted for his polished and warm live shows. Spiking his onstage patter with a droll, but quick-witted humour, he is a consummate entertainer. On occasion his songs can turn into elaborate arrangements and improvisations. He is also known for changing musical styles within a piece and making use of irregular time signatures and mixed meters.

Sound City is a 2013 documentary film by Dave Grohl, at his directorial debut, about the history of Los Angeles recording studio Sound City Studios.
Sound City Studios was located in the San Fernando Valley, amidst rows of dilapidated warehouses. The little-known recording studio housed a unique recording console and a reputation for recording drums. Artists such as Fleetwood Mac, Neil Young, Rick Springfield, Tom Petty, Kyuss, Slipknot and Nirvana recorded groundbreaking music at the studio. The film tells the story of the studio from its early days until its closing in 2011. It then follows Dave Grohl's purchase of the studio's custom analog console, which he moved to his personal studio, Studio 606. Famous musicians who recorded at Sound City reunite at Studio 606 to make an album of "all-new all-original songs, each one composed exclusively for the film within its own 24-hour session on that console."
