Rhys Darby is best known as the well-meaning but inept band manager, Murray in HBO's Flight of the Conchords. He has also starred opposite Jim Carrey in Yes Man and appeared in many sitcoms from Modern Family to Hot in Cleveland.  More recently he joined his Conchords alumni Jemaine Clement in the cult comedy hit What we do in the Shadows.

 

But before the screen work Darby had been treading the boards of comedy clubs the world over with his unique form of standup comedy.   Described as a sensational blend of sound effects, characterizations and askew observations his quirky view of the world delights audiences. His career has taken him from his homeland of New Zealand, to the U.K. and beyond. He is a huge drawcard at Festivals like the Edinburgh Fringe and Montreal’s Just for Laughs.

 

Rhys has three standup special’s, Imagine That!  ( 2008),  It’s Rhys Darby Night! (2011) and This Way to Spaceship, (2012).  

 

Since then he has written and starred in his own 8 part mockumentary comedy series for TVNZ and Netflix, Short Poppies.  He had so much fun creating his own television show he is now working on the next one.
